HTC has finally started rolling out the Android 5.0.1 OTA update for the Google Play edition of the HTC One M7 and M8. The company had to postpone the update numerous times because it unsuccessful to get the required TA (Technical Approval) from Google.
However, the OTA update is rolling out for both devices M7/M8, and should make its way to all GPe owners over the next week. If you can’t wait for the update though, you can always install it yourself on your device — provided you don’t mind messing with “ADB/Fastboot” and the stock Android recovery.
Before you jump to the step-by-step guide below, it will also be a good option to make a backup of all your data on the phone— in case something goes wrong.
Step No 1:- First of all, Download the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop OTA update for your HTC One from links below, rename it to “lollipop.zip” and then transfer it to the internal storage of the phone.

Step No 2:- Reboot your HTC One into stock recovery mode by switching it off first, and then pressing the Volume Down + Power button. Your HTC One should boot into Fastboot mode. Simply use the Volume keys to navigate to the Recovery option, and verify your selection by pressing the Power button.
Step No 3:- Your HTC One will once again reboot, and at this point you’ll be greeted with an Android logo image and an exclamation mark. Now Press the Volume Up key and then the Power button to enter into the stock Android recovery.
Step No 4:- Use the Volume keys to navigate to the ‘apply from phone storage’ option and then navigate to the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop OTA file that you had transferred to the phone on Step No 1. Select it by pressing the Power key, and hang on for the installation to complete.
Step No 5:- Once completed, select the ‘Reboot system now’ option to boot into Lollipop. The first boot will take a long time (around 10 minutes).
