While it is nice to see smartphone makers take the initiative to appear with tough looking handsets, not to mention building them more durable in the presence of water, like the Sony Xperia Z3, this does not signify that such handsets are so durable & tough, they’ll be able to survive any variety of drops and knocks. No sir, but there are some highly customized phones out there like the CAT S50 that are tough as nails. 1st unveiled at this year’s IFA expo, the CAT S50 has now entered the Atlantic, making this one of the most tough Android-operated smartphones to hit the US.
Just what type of hardware does the CAT S50 bunch underneath its rugged exterior? Well, we’re looking at a 4.7 inches display at 720 x 1280 resolution, 2GB Ram memory, a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, an 8MP shooter, 8GB of internal storage, with it accompanied by Android 4.4 KitKat as the mobile OS of choice, not to mention boasting LTE connectivity. As for its strength, well, you can always drop back on its IP67-certified waterproofing functionality, not to mention having wet-finger tracking service. Apart from that, there is also a scratch resistance outside in addition to conforming to the Mil Specifications 810G military rating for operating in hard environments.
There are rubber bumpers across all 4 corners, in addition to a thick plastic armor. The CAT S50 smartphone runs on a 2,630mAh battery that has been scored at 16 hours of talk time, and it provides up to 33 days of standby time.
