Hi everyone, In this article i will show you how to root Nexus 5 on android 5.0 lollipop. The Android 5.0 Lollipop stuff hasn’t even set on the Nexus 5 yet, but famous developer & root master, Chainfire, has already established an exploit to provide you with fantastic root privileges on your re-flavored Nexus 5.
Disclaimer:
- This root procedure is only for Android 5.0 Lollipop (LRX21O) installed on Nexus 5 and I am unsure if it’ll work on the other variants of the Nexus 5 on other providers.
- Your Nexus 5 device bootloader must be unlocked.
- Nexus 5 should be on Android 5.0 Lollipop (LRX21O) software version.
- Make a Nandroid backup of your previous smartphone set up before proceeding – for just in case something goes wrong.
How to Root Android 5.0 LRX21O on Nexus 5 Step by Step:
Step 1: Make sure your smartphone has USB Debugging enabled. If you don’t have this option in Settings already, go to smartphone Settings > About Phone and tap Build Number until the notification that Developer Options have been enabled shows up. Then back out a step and you will see it at the bottom of your Settings menu.
Step 2: Make sure you’ve the Nexus 5 USB Drivers installed on your PC.
Step 3: Firstly, check your Nexus 5 battery is charged.
Step 4: Open the ADB Tools folder on your PC. If you don’t have it installed previously download ADB Tools, Click here.
Step 5: Make sure Fastboot lives in the ADB Tools folder once you’re completed installing. If it doesn’t, download Fastboot for Windows.
Step 6: Download SuperSU on your PC.
Step 7: Now, Copy the SuperSU zip file to the root directory of your device. To do this, connect your Nexus 5 device to your PC with a USB cable and copy the file to the place where all the root folders aren’t in a folder.
Step 8: Download ClockworkMod custom recovery to your Computer and put it in the Platform Tools directory also.
Step 9: Reboot your device in Fastboot. Turn it off, then press and hold Power + Volume Down until you see the Fastboot menu. You should still be connected to the Computer with a USB cable.
Step 10: Now, Open a Windows Explorer window and go to the Platform Tools folder.
Step 11: In a blank space in the window, hold Shift and right click your computer mouse. You will want to click on Open Command Window here.
Step 12: Type in the following command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.5-hammerhead.img
Step 13: You will now be rocking ClockworkMod recovery. Use the volume buttons to select Recovery Mode on your Nexus 5 & click Power to enter it.
Step 14: From CWM, use the volume keys to select (flash zip from SD card) and press Power key to confirm, then select (choose zip file from SD card) – no prizes for guessing what comes next.
Step 15: Scroll to the SuperSU zip you copied over previously and hit power key to confirm your selection and got through the set up process.
Step 16: Back out to main menu and reboot your device.
Step 17: The Nexus 5 will boot now and it might take about 5 mins to boot on your first time. So, please hang on.
That’s it folks! Your Nexus 5 is now rooted on Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware on your smartphone! Check for the SuperSU app in your apps list to confirm.
To ensure you’ve correctly installed the above root method and it’s working, confirm with Root Checker as given in the link.
